10 Tips for The Best Seating Arrangements at Events

It's important to ensure guests feel welcome and comfortable at any event. And that is especially true when it comes to any sit-down dinner event. There are usually different dynamics to take into consideration. We're discussing 10 tips to consider for the best seating arrangements at events.

Make Sure Seats Are Comfortable

I know this is stating the obvious, but you'd be surprised! Make sure chairs are comfortable, padded and fit all of your guests, especially if it will be a long dinner.

Consider Different Relationships Among Guests

If you know that your third cousin and your uncle's new wife don't really get along, be mindful of that (and any other similar situation). It's best to seat them at different tables and farther away from each other. It not only benefits them but all the guests around them.

Make Sure Table Settings Help with Party Flow

When arranging your tables and chairs for guests, keep in mind your party flow. Make sure that tables in a busy walkway (in the path of servers, bathrooms, buffet tables, etc.) have plenty of room for guests to get by and not disturb seated guests.

Communicate with Guests Before the Event

If there is tension between two guests, give each one a heads-up that you've considered this. Let them know that you've preplanned for them to sit at separate tables far from each other. It will give them peace of mind long before the party.

Lounge Style Seating

If you're looking for a laid-back style of seating, consider having a lounge setting of different types of sofas, love seats, and chairs that people can sit at. Let them choose who and where they want to sit!

Free Style Seating

Free-style seating is an excellent option for buffet style dinners. Letting guests choose where and who they want to sit with allows guests to make the decision themselves. They'll be comfortable knowing they can sit with their long, long relative they've been wanting to catch up with.

And bonus??? You don't have to worry about planning the seating arrangement. You can check that off the list!

High Top Seating

Mix it up with different tables and add some high top tables that people can stand and eat. This allows people the freedom to mill around and chat after they eat and puts guests at ease.

Kid's table

We all started at the kids' table and as an adult, I see why 😂 Kids want to be kids and don't want to hear about surgeries or work related events. And most adults don't want to hear bout the latest tik tok dances and trends.

Seating Proximity

If some older people or individuals have special needs you need to consider, be sure to keep that in mind. If you have a buffet, seat older guests closer to the buffet table and let them go first.

And, think about putting the loud kids' table farthest away from the grandparent's table. You want to make sure all guests have an excellent time 😉

Roll with Any Last Minute Changes

No matter how much time and energy you put into creating the perfect seating arrangement, there's BOUND to be someone who will take it upon themselves and switch things up. They might swap seats with someone or bounce around from table to table. Just roll with it. There's no sense in letting it get under your skin and possibly ruin your time. Just focus on having the best time at your event.
